Located at 397 Donlands Avenue, in the heart of Central Toronto, Bunker 8 Digital Labs provides a facility unlinke any other. We strive to provide an environment that is condusive to creative output. We start with a renovated movie theatre, complete with soundstage and film production facility, add a photography suite, rehersal suite and finally finish with a tracking/mixing digital facility.
A recording studio is a facility for sound recording. Ideally, the space is specially designed by an acoustician to achieve the desired acoustic properties (sound diffusion, low level of reflections, adequate reverberation time for the size of the ambient, etc.). Different types of studios record bands and artists, voiceovers and music for television shows, movies, animations, and commercials, and/or even record a full orchestra. The typical recording studio consists of a room called the “studio”, where instrumentalists and vocalists perform; and the “control room”, which houses the equipment for recording, routing and manipulating the sound. Often, there will be smaller rooms called “isolation booths” present to accommodate loud instruments such as drums or electric guitar, to keep these sounds from being audible to the microphones that are capturing the sounds from other instruments or vocalists.
What makes us innovate, we are an “analog-digital” hybrid. Using the best features of both technologies. We have a selection of over forty different microphones, ten different types of headphones, 3 seperate monitor systems, etc. We are able to transfer, assimilate and reconfigure any pre-existing recording or production master into our setup.
Sigmund attributes the studio’s success in maintaining such a diverse client list to their technical and production staff, Brent’s ability to anticipate industry trends, and Bunker 8′s overall atmosphere
and approach. “There’s no pretension here, we just do the job – regardless of who the client is,” says Sigmund. By anticipating needs and keeping maintenance extremely high, Bunker 8 strives to make the studio the creative environment it should be, “We want our clients to come in and do what they came here to do – make records….and hopefully, successful ones.”
We have a massive collection of analogue and digital gear. Fantastic mics, great outboard, effects galore.
We are entirely computer based at Bunker 8 Digital Labs. We use a value/analog front end for maximum headroom, coupled with a 24/96K digital backend. For synth heads, we are a gear lover’s delight. For guitarists, we keep a variety of outboard pedals and rack gear onsite to insure that you can shred with the best of them. For techno purists, we have the software platforms, and hardware platform to ensure that your track will be bangin with the best of them. Hip Hop/R&B we have the largest urban/dance sample library in Canada, and the second largest overall.
We have a massive collection of analogue and digital gear. Fantastic mics, great outboard, effects galore. We also have several vintage electric and acoustic guitars and basses. Our synthesizer collection is an across the board representation of both the vintage and the modern. All you have to bring is your ideas, we’ll take care of the rest!
General purpose computers have rapidly assumed a large role in the recording process, being able to replace the mixing consoles, recorders, synthesizers, samplers and sound effects devices. A computer thus outfitted is called a Digital Audio Workstation, or DAW. Popular audio-recording software includes Digidesign Fl Studio Pro Tools, the industry standard for most studios. Cubase and Nuendo both by Steinberg, MOTU Digital Performer, the standard for MIDI. Ableton Live, Cakewalk SONAR, ACID Pro and Apple Logic Pro. Cool Edit Pro also known as Audition (after bought out by Adobe), Audacity, and Ardour on Linux.
Current software applications are more reliant on the audio recording hardware than the computer they are running on, therefore typical high-end computer hardware is less of a priority. While Apple Macintosh is common for studio work, there is a breadth of software available for Microsoft Windows and Linux. A sizeable portion of both commercial and home studios can be seen running PC-based multitrack audio software.
You have to consider that the better the end result, the more likely that the client will want to return.
Have to be heard to be believed. Who else do you know guarantees complete satisfaction upfront and will provide a written estimate which will be adhered to throughout the project lifecycle. Still not convinced? Come in and challenge our guarantee. We are seeking to build strong professional relationships, based on the right projects, with a cooperative relationship between the business and the client. To be soley interested in filling up the studio, doesn’t help the bottom line. You have to consider that the better the end result, the more likely that the client will want to return. Having a cool facility is one thing, we have taken the time to create an atmosphere of trust and caring with the clients we work with. We don’t advertise, people find us. And once they do, they return again and again.
